Slow Start Sets Shaw Back Against FSU

RALEIGH, NC --Trent McIntyre scored 23 points, but the Shaw men's basketball team fell to the Fayetteville State Broncos 80-70 at home Thursday.

The Bears (8-9, 3-2) had two players score in double figures, led by McIntyre, who had 23 points. Elijah Scranton added 11 points and six rebounds and Jermaine Vereen added eight points and two blocks.

Scranton pulled down four offensive rebounds to lead the Shaw offense which grabbed 10 boards and turned them into 11 second chance points.

Shaw forced 18 Fayetteville State turnovers while committing 10 themselves in Thursday's game. The Bears turned those takeaways into 17 points on the offensive end of the floor. Jaylen Bandy led the way individually with three steals.


How It Happened

Shaw struggled out of the gate, falling behind 36-23 heading into halftime.

Fayetteville State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 52-34 advantage before Shaw went on a 9-0 run to shrink the deficit to 52-43 with 12:33 to go in the contest. Fayetteville State responded and outscored the Bears the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 80-70. Shaw capitalized on 12 Fayetteville State turnovers in the period, collecting 15 points off those turnovers.

» The Bears were active in affecting shots on the defensive end, tallying five blocks as a team.
