Lady Bears earn 3-0 sweep against Fayetteville State

RALEIGH, NC --The Shaw volleyball team cruised to a three-set victory (28-26, 25-14, 25-19) over the Fayetteville State Broncos Thursday at home at C C Spalding Gymnasium in their CIAA opener. 

The conference win improved Shaw's record to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in CIAA action.

Talia Emmen finished with 15 kills on the day to lead the Bears offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .414. got 12 digs from Kalia Morris to lead them defensively.

» Manuela Cripa Nasser had a match-high four aces in the win.
» Shaw served up five aces in each the first and second sets on the way to wins. 
» Talia Emmen had a match-high 15 kills for Shaw.
» Shaw got a team-high 12 digs from Kalia Morris.
» Shaw attackers were helped by a match-high 36 assists from Manuela Cripa Nasser.

How It Happened

SET 1 | Pinpoint serving helped the Bears take the first set 28-26. Shaw notched five aces in the set victory. After the lead changed hands four times, the Lady Bears took control for good at 27-26 and rode that advantage to victory. The Lady Bears opening set win came in a stanza where 18 of their 28 points came via the kill and the last two coming from service aces. 

SET 2 | Shaw continued to roll after a set-one win by securing a 25-14 victory in set two. The Lady Bears earned the set victory propelled by a solid showing on the attacking end. Shaw put together a .458 attack percentage with 11 kills in the set win. The Lady Bears ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza. The Shaw offense also got a boost from five aces in the stanza.

SET 3 | Shaw closed the match in a 3-0 sweep after winning the third set. The Lady Bears took the set 25-19. Shaw took the lead for good at 15-14 in a set that had just one lead change before the Lady Bears took over in the second half of the stanza. The Shaw offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza. Shaw's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Fayetteville State attacks in the stanza.

Shaw returns to action Monday, September 23 as they travel to Winston-Salem State University for a CIAA showdown. First serve is slated for 6 PM.
