MT.OLIVE, NC – The Shaw University Volleyball team competed fiercely at the University of Mount Olive (UMO) Invitational this weekend, concluding the event with a 2-2 record after four challenging matches. The Invitational, held at UMO's Kornegay Arena, featured high-level competition and provided valuable experience for the Lady Bears.
At the conclusion of the event, the Lady Bears are now 4-2 on the year.
Match 1: Shaw vs. Concord
The Lady Bears opened the Invitational with a hard fought 3-2 victory over Concord. Shaw showcased their offensive prowess with standout performances from Talia Emmen (19 kills) Manuela Cripa (59 assist) and strong defensive efforts from Kalia Morris (17 digs) and Kamile Patrick (5 blocks)
Match 2: Shaw vs. Edinboro
In their second match, Shaw put together a strong overall performance to defeat Edinboro 3-1. Shaw opened the match winning the first set before dropping the second set. The Lady Bears closed out the match with scores of 25-22 and 25-14.
Match 3: Shaw vs. Lenoir Rhyne
Shaw suffered its first loss of the season dropping their opening match on Saturday 3-0 to the Lenoir Rhyne Bears. Shaw fell by scores of 25-22,25-14 and 25-17. Kamille Patrick led the way with 13 kills and a pair of blocks.
Match 4: Shaw vs. UMNO
In their final match of the Invitational, Shaw faced host UMO and fell short with a 3-1 defeat. The Lady Bears rebounded from an opening set 25-14 loss to tie the match at 1-1 winning the second set 25-23. The Trojans proceeded to pull away winning the third and fourth sets 25-18 and 25-22.
