RALEIGH, NC - Shaw University Bears football team is set to face the Catawba College Indians in a non-conference match up this Saturday night. Kickoff is slated for 6:00 PM inside Durham County Memorial Stadium.
Saturday's battle will be just the second all-time between the two North Carolina programs with the Catawba Indians leading the series 1-0 coming away with a 32-21 win in 2010.
The Bears are looking to keep the early season momentum going as Shaw sits at 2-0 for the first time since 2013 and will look to go 3-0 for the first time since the 2009 season. Shaw is coming off a thrilling 43-40 win over Albany State last Saturday night in Albany, GA.
In a game that saw the Bears overcoming two 10-point second half deficits, Shaw used a record tying six touchdown performance from quarterback Christian Peters to come away with the road win including his game winning scoring strike to Ah'Shaan Belcher with just eight seconds left that put the Bears ahead for good.
Belcher now sits one touchdown off the school record for career touchdown catches with 19.
Catawba will look to rebound from dropping their season opener to FCS Davidson 49-14 where they saw the Wildcats gash their rush defense for 399 yards and over 500 total yards. Evan Simons tallied 12 tackles in a defensive effort. Preston Brown was a highlight for the Catawba offense finishing with two touchdowns and 181 yards along with 22 completions.
