Shaw drops home finale to WSSU

RALEIGH, NC --The Shaw men's basketball team got a 30-point performance from the bench, but fell 85-69 to the Winston-Salem Rams at home Thursday.

The Bears (13-13, 9-9) had three players score in double figures, led by Shayne Saigo, who had 18 points. Kam Humphrey added 11 points from the bench and Dreveon Scott chipped in as well with 10 points from the bench.

Led by DJ Thomas' two offensive rebounds, Shaw did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 13 boards that resulted in seven second chance points.

How It Happened

After falling behind 29-23, Shaw went on a 5-0 run with 2:12 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Scott, to narrow its deficit to 29-28. Winston-Salem answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Bears down 35-32 entering halftime.

Winston-Salem State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 69-51 advantage before Shaw went on a 5-0 run to shrink the deficit to 69-56 with 3:50 to go in the contest. Winston-Salem State responded and outscored the Bears the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 85-69. Shaw shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting six shots from deep to score 18 of its 37 points.
