RALEIGH, NC --Jamari Roberts collected a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Shaw men's basketball team past the Johnson C. Smith University Golden Bulls 76-72 at home Saturday.

In addition to Roberts' double-double, the Bears (12-12, 8-8) were led by Shayne Saigo, who totaled 11 points, eight rebounds and four steals, and by Corey Rutherford, who tacked on 15 points and three steals.

Shaw out-rebounded Johnson C. Smith 41-31 in Saturday's game, led by Roberts' 12 boards. The Bears also collected 15 offensive rebounds and scored 21 second chance points.

The Shaw defense was a problem in Saturday's game, forcing 13 Johnson C. Smith turnovers. Those takeaways turned into nine points on the offensive end of the floor. Saigo's four steals led the way individually for the Bears.

How It Happened

After falling behind 10-5, Shaw went on an 8-0 run with 17:41 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Dj Thomas, to take a 13-10 lead. The Bears then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 37-33.

After intermission, Shaw came back to even it up at 57-57 before going on a 6-0 run to seize a 63-57 lead with 5:52 to go in the contest. The Golden Bulls narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Bears still held on for the 76-72 win. Shaw got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 15 of its 43 total points.
