RALEIGH, NC --The Shaw women's basketball team went into the fourth quarter tied 47-47 with Claflin, but gave up a late basket and saw their winning shot bank off the rim as Shaw fell to Clafin 66-64. 

The  :Lady Bears (11-13, 6-9) had two players score in double figures, led by Alexis Radcliff, who had 17 points and six rebounds. Lojain Elfatairy added 14 points and four steals and Zaniyyah Ross-Barnes added nine points, nine rebounds and four blocks.

Shaw out-rebounded Claflin 40-37 in Wednesday's game, paced by Ross-Barnes' nine boards. The Lady Bears also grabbed 14 offensive rebounds and scored six second chance points.

How It Happened

After jumping out to an 11-7 advantage, Shaw went on a 6-0 run with 4:54 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Radcliff, to increase its lead to 17-7. The Lady Bears then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 19-14 advantage. Shaw relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down three shots to account for nine of its 19 points.

The Lady Bears could not maintain their lead in the second quarter and entered halftime trailing 34-30.

After intermission, Shaw cut its deficit to 43-40 before going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Madjiguene Pene, to grab a 46-43 lead with 2:06 to go in the third. The Panthers then rallied to tie it at 47-47 heading into the fourth quarter. Shaw took advantage of five Claflin turnovers in the quarter, scoring six points off of takeaways.

Claflin then snagged a 61-55 advantage before Shaw responded by going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Radcliff's layup, to seize a 64-61 lead with 1:38 to go in the contest. Claflin re-asserted control, outscoring the Bears 5-0 the rest of the way to hand Shaw the 66-64 loss. Shaw took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 10 of its 17 points in the paint.
