ETTRICK, VA --The Shaw men's basketball team went into the halftime break trailing Virginia State 36-27, but rallied from the deficit to take down the Trojans 66-62 on the road Tuesday in a non-conference clash.Â
The Bears (5-4) had four players score in double figures, led by Trent McIntyre, who had 16 points and two steals. Dee Barnes added 13 points and four steals and Dreveon Scott chipped in as well with 11 points and seven rebounds.
Shaw forced 18 Virginia State turnovers while committing 10 themselves in Tuesday's game. The Bears turned those takeaways into 16 points on the other end of the floor. Barnes' four steals led the way for Shaw.
How It Happened
After falling behind 19-16, Shaw went on a 5-0 run with 8:16 left in the first half to take a 21-19 lead. The Bears then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 36-27.
Shaw narrowed its deficit to 49-45 before going on a 6-0 run to seize a 51-49 lead with 10:23 to go in the contest. The Bears kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 66-62 win.
