Shaw falls to #20 Nova Southeastern

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL --The Shaw women's basketball team got a 34-point showing from the bench, but fell 79-56 to the 20th ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks on the road Friday.

Mahogany Collins put together a double-double with 11 rebounds and 12 blocks to lead the  Lady Bears (3-3). Mikyah Finley tacked on 11 points off the bench and Kaylee Milburn helped out with seven points off of the bench.

The Shaw defense held Nova Southeastern shooters to just 39.4 percent from the field, including 26.7 percent from three-point range.

How It Happened

Shaw struggled out of the gate, falling behind 19-9 at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Bears continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 37-23 halftime deficit.

Shaw's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Lady Bears faced a 62-40 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Shaw played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 17 points in the paint.

Shaw could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 79-56. Shaw took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 12 of its 16 points in the paint.
