Five different players reached the end zone as Shaw handily beat Bluefield State 35-17 on Saturday afternoon at Durham County Memorial Stadium.
The Bears improved to 4-2 on the year and 2-1 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association play, while the Big Blues fell to 1-4 and 0-2.
Travon Tensley totaled 123 yards to lead the Bears' ground attack and added one touchdown in the game, picking up 11.2 yards per carry along the way. Traquan Johnson also tacked on 97 yards and one touchdown on the ground, picking up 8.8 yards per carry.
Jon Barnes reeled in three catches for 66 yards.
Amon Tinsley showed out for the Shaw defense, recording three tackles and one interception. Noah Gibson added six tackles and one interception and Jalen Banks had 1.0 TFL and one sack in the win.
Shaw put together a stellar showing on the ground, gaining 272 rushing yards while averaging 7.8 yards per carry and out-rushing Bluefield State by 214 yards.
Shaw's defense was tough against the run, limiting Bluefield State to only 58 yards on the ground. The Bears defense disrupted the Bluefield State passing game on the way to grabbing two interceptions and breaking up two Big Blues passes.

Shaw found itself down early 7-0, but responded to take a 13-7 lead with 3:41 remaining in the first quarter.After Bluefield State scored to cut the Bears lead to 13-10, Shaw fired back with a touchdown to make it 21-10
.
Shaw then added a touchdown with 2:54 left in the second quarter to make it a 28-10 lead.The Bears continued to increase their lead, scoring again to go ahead 35-10. Shaw didn't score again in the game and Bluefield State tacked on seven more points to finish off the scoring.
