WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Shaw fell 34-14 to Winston-Salem on the road Saturday afternoon.
The Rams improved to 5-2 on the year and 3-1 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association play, while the Bears fell to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in conference matchups.
Christi Peters led Shaw's passing attack with 247 yards through the air, tossing two touchdowns and one interception.
Traqua Johnson totaled 60 yards to lead the Bears' ground attack in the game, picking up 7.5 yards per carry along the way. Travon Tensley also tacked on 19 yards on the ground.
Jon Barnes reeled in two catches for 64 yards. Tyrek Hardison got in on the action in the passing game as well, hauling in three balls for 55 yards. The Bears also got 51 yards receiving and one touchdown from Maceo Wingate in the contest.
Keshaun Denham led the Bears in tackles with 8 total. Kristian Lyons followed with 7. Shaw finished with three tackles for loss but gave up over 500 yards to the Rams.Â
How It Happened
After Winston-Salem opened up a 7-0 lead, Shaw scored with 5:06 remaining in the second quarter to narrow the margin to 7-6.After Winston-Salem scored to extend its lead to 34-6, the Bears got on the scoreboard again to close the gap and make it a 34-14 game as Peters found Wingate on a big gain. Neither team scored again in the game.
