CHARLOTTE, NC --The Shaw Bears gave the #20 ranked team in the country all they could handle but saw there upset attempt come up short 21-14 Saturday afternoon in Charlotte.Â
The Golden Bulls improved to 7-0 on the season while the Bears dropped to 4-4 overall and 2-3Â in the CIAA.
Christian Peters led Shaw's passing attack with 217 yards through the air, tossing one touchdown without throwing an interception.
Travon Tensley totaled 96 yards to lead the Bears' ground attack and added one touchdown in the game, picking up 4.8 yards per carry along the way. also tacked on 32 yards on the ground.
Ah'Shaan Belcher reeled in seven catches for 81 yards and one score. Maceo Wingate got in on the action in the passing game as well, hauling in three balls for 69 yards.
Quewon Hilliard led the Shaw defense with 11 total tackles.Â
Defensively, Shaw held up fairly well against the Johnson C. Smith offensive attack, holding the Golden Bulls to 325 total yards.
How It Happened
Shaw took a 7-0 lead over Johnson C. Smith after scoring the game's first points on the first drive of the game.Johnson C. Smith then scored to take a 21-7 lead before the Bears put a touchdown on the board to narrow the advantage and make it a 21-14 game. Shaw had one last chance to tie the game with less than a minute left with the ball in JCSU territory but came up short on fourth down to end the threat.Â
