Lady Bears earn 4-set win against Fayetteville State

FAYETTEVILLE, NC --The Shaw Bears volleyball team got the job done in four sets (25-23, 15-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-16) to knock off the Fayetteville State Broncos Thursday on the road at Felton J Capel Arena.

The win boosted the Lady Bears record to 17-3 overall and 11-0 in CIAA play.

Amari Earl finished with 13 kills on the day to lead the Bears attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .256. Defensively, had two players reach double figures in digs as Kalia Morris had 16 and Maelie Chupin had 10.

» Shaw never trailed on the way to winning the fourth set 25-16.
» Amari Earl had a match-high 13 kills for Shaw.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Lady Bears took the first set 25-23 helped by a solid performance on the attacking side. Shaw registered a .333 attack percentage with 14 kills in the set victory. After the lead changed hands two times, the Lady Bears took control for good at 17-16 and rode that advantage to victory.

SET 2 | Shaw fell in the second set 25-15 to even the match 1-1. Shaw trailed by as many as 10 points as Fayetteville State grabbed the advantage for good at 8-7 in a set that was tied up six times before the Broncos took over the lead.

SET 3 | Shaw put the second-set loss behind and took a 2-1 match lead with a victory in the third set. The Lady Bears took control of the set early when the score was 3-2 and never trailed to win 25-18. Shaw led by seven points at 17-10 before closing out the stanza. The Shaw offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

SET 4 | Shaw kept the momentum going, ending the match with a 25-16 fourth-set victory. The Lady Bears scored first and never trailed in the set to earn the victory. Shaw finished up the stanza on a strong note, claiming its biggest lead, nine points, to close out the set. Shaw also supplemented their offense with three aces in the set.
