Lady Bears Fall to Bowie State 79-58

GREENVILLE, SC --The Shaw offense put on a ball-movement clinic at Bon Secours Wellness Arena Saturday, notching 15 assists on 21 made shots, but the Lady Bears fell to the Bowie State Bulldogs 79-58.

The Bears (9-6, 4-2) had three players score in double figures, led by Naomi Winston-Ellis, who had 16 points and two steals. Elisha Quinn tacked on 13 points and Alexis Radcliff chipped in as well with 12 points and six rebounds.

The Shaw offense was strong from beyond the arc, pouring in nine threes on 23 attempts. Quinn hit three treys for the Lady Bears in the contest.

How It Happened

Shaw started out the scoring by going on a 5-0 run, culminating in a three from Winston-Ellis, to take an early lead with 8:49 left in the first quarter. The Lady Bears then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 19-15.

The Lady Bears continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 42-26 halftime deficit.

After intermission, Shaw cut its deficit to 55-41 before going on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Quinn, to trim its deficit to 55-46 with 3:00 to go in the third. Bowie State countered and stretched its lead to 60-49 heading into the fourth.

Shaw could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 79-58. Shaw fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down two shots to account for six of its nine points.

» Shaw found success from three point land, knocking down nine treys in the game.
» The Lady Bears put on a passing clinic, recording an assist on 71 percent of made field goals.
» Shaw got a team-high six rebounds from Alexis Radcliff.
» The Lady Bears made the most of their trips to the charity stripe knocking down seven of their eight attempts. 
» Shaw struggled in the rebound department allowing Bowie State to win the battle of the boards 46-27 while also allowing 14 offensive rebounds.
