FAYETTEVILLE, NC -- Lillian Carlson and Noelani Beard both notched double-doubles to help power the Shaw volleyball team to a 3-2 win (22-25, 25-14, 14-25, 25-14, 15-13) against the Fayetteville State Broncos Thursday on the road at Felton J. Capel Arena.
The CIAA Southern Division win improved Shaw's record to 12-4 overall and 5-0 in CIAA play. The Broncos fell to 3-10 overall and 0-1 in the CIAA.
The Lady Bears were led by the double-doubles from Beard, who had 12 kills and 15 digs, and Carlson, who had 12 kills and 12 digs. Kamille Patrick added 17 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Jasmine Culp chipped in 17 digs to go with four blocks from Patrick.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Bears found themselves in an early deficit, losing the first set 25-22. Fayetteville State grabbed the advantage for good at 7-6 in a set that was tied up six times before the Broncos took control.
SET 2 | Shaw responded to pick up a 25-14 victory in the second set, evening the match at one set apiece. The Lady Bears led from the first point in the set to earn the victory. Shaw opened up as much as a 13-point lead at 23-10 before finishing off the set. The Shaw offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | Fayetteville State responded to win set number three, putting Shaw in a two sets to one hole. The Lady Bears dropped a tough set 25-14. Shaw trailed by as many as 11 points as Fayetteville State grabbed the advantage for good at 5-4 in a set that was knotted up four times before the Broncos took over the lead.
SET 4 | Shaw then responded to secure the fourth set 25-14 to force a fifth set. The Lady Bears grabbed control of the set at 2-1 and never looked back. Shaw led by 12 points at 24-12 before finishing off the stanza.
SET 5 | Down two sets to one, Shaw fired back to win the final two sets, culminating in a 15-13 fifth-set victory, to take the match 3-2. The Lady Bears took the fifth set powered by a solid showing on the attacking side. Shaw put together a .400 attack percentage with 11 kills in the set win. After the lead changed hands two times, the Bears took control for good at 12-11 and rode that advantage to victory. Patrick scored the match-winning point off an assist from Janok.
