FLORENCE, SC – The Shaw men's soccer team came back in the second half to tie Francis Marion 1-1 at Hartzler Field on Saturday. The Bears' record is 1-0-1 after the tie.
The Bears trailed 1-0 in the first half but
Zhane Irving knotted the score in the second half on a penalty kick goal. Francis Marion attempted five shots to Shaw's one after Irving's goal but the Bears' defense, keyed by goalkeeper
Pablo Bas Colomer, prevented a goal.
Francis Marion outshot the Bears 16-8 overall but Bas Colomer totaled eight saves. The Patriots led Shaw in corner kicks 6-0 but they also led in fouls 14-10 and yellow cards 3-1.
Shaw is back in action Tuesday, Sept. 5, against Carlow (Pa.) at Durham County Memorial Stadium. The contest begins at 1 p.m.
