RALEIGH, NC -- The Shaw volleyball team took care of business in four sets (25-12, 25-16, 23-25, 25-20) to beat the Winston-Salem Rams Tuesday at home inside historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
The Southern Division win improved the Lady Bears' record to 11-4 overall and 4-0 in CIAA play. The Rams fell to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in the CIAA.
The Lady Bears' offense was paced by Noelani Beard, who finished with 13 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .290, and by Lillian Carlson, who had 10 kills. Defensively, Shaw had two players reach double figures in digs as Maelie Chupin had 13 and Jasmine Culp had 12.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Bears, propelled by a solid showing on the attacking side, took set one 25-12. Shaw registered a .385 attack percentage with 13 kills in the set victory. The Lady Bears ended on a strong note, stretching the lead to their largest point in the set to finish out the stanza. Shaw also supplemented its offense with four aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Shaw carried momentum from a set-one win by securing a 25-16 victory in set two. The Lady Bears led from the first point to earn the victory. Shaw opened a 10-point lead at 24-14 before closing out the set.
SET 3 | Winston-Salem State stayed alive with a third-set victory to make it a 2-1 match. The Lady Bears couldn't persevere past a ferocious Winston-Salem State rally, losing 25-23 after leading by seven points at 23-16 earlier in the set.
SET 4 | Shaw then responded to earn the match win with a 25-20 fourth-set victory. The Lady Bears took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to earn the victory. Shaw opened up an eight-point lead at 21-13 before closing out the stanza. Shaw also supplemented its offense with three aces in the set. Shaw got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Winston-Salem State attacks in the stanza.
