RALEIGH, NC -- The Shaw volleyball team jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but couldn't hang on and fell 3-1 (25-17, 21-25, 21-25, 19-25) to the Alaska-Fairbanks Nanooks Saturday at home on the final day of the ShawU Invitational at historic C.C. Spalding Gymnasium.
The non-conference loss dropped Shaw to 10-4 on the season.
The Lady Bears were led by a double-double from Lillian Carlson, who registered 12 kills and 10 digs on the day. Amari Earl added nine kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Jasmine Culp chipped in 20 digs to go with six blocks from Kamille Patrick.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Bears jumped out to an early lead, handily winning the first set 25-17. Shaw never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 17-16 in a set that featured eight ties and five lead changes. Shaw also supplemented its offense with three aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Shaw then dropped the second set 25-21, evening things at a set each. The Lady Bears fell in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured four lead changes and nine ties. Neither team led by more than four points along the way.
SET 3 | A set-three loss put Shaw down two sets to one. The Lady Bears dropped the set 25-21 despite a strong performance on the attacking end. Shaw put together a .333 attack percentage with 10 kills in the set loss.
SET 4 | Shaw lost the fourth set and the match, falling 25-19. The Lady Bears serving was deadly in the set, as Shaw notched five aces in a losing effort.
