RALEIGH, NC -- The Shaw volleyball team fired back after dropping set one to secure a 3-1 win (22-25, 25-9, 25-21, 25-20) over the Saint Augustine's Lady Falcons Wednesday at home at historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
The conference victory over its crosstown rival improved Shaw's record to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in CIAA action.
The Lady Bears were led by a double-double from Noelani Beard, who registered 12 kills and 10 digs on the day. Lillian Carlson also added seven kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Jasmine Culp chipped in 16 digs to go with four blocks from Kamille Patrick.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Bears couldn't endure a furious Saint Augustine's rally in the first set, losing 25-22 after leading by seven points at 9-2 earlier in the set.
SET 2 | Shaw tied the match 1-1 en route to a 25-9 set-two win. The Lady Bears took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to secure the victory. Shaw opened its biggest lead of the stanza, 16 points, to close out the set. The Lady Bears hit .500 over the course of the set. The Shaw offense got a boost from five aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | Shaw built on that second-set success with a victory in set number three to open up a 2-1 lead. The Lady Bears scored first and never trailed in the set to earn a 25-21 victory. Shaw opened up as much as a nine-point lead at 16-7 before finishing off the set. The Shaw offense got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
SET 4 | Shaw closed out the match with a 25-20 fourth-set victory, winning their third set in a row. The Lady Bears grabbed control of the set at 5-4 and held the lead the rest of the way. Shaw led by as many as six points at 14-8 before finishing off the stanza. Shaw also supplemented its offense with five aces in the set.

The Lady Bears visit Claflin in a Southern Division tilt on Thursday, Sept. 14, in Orangeburg, S.C., at 6 p.m. This will be their second match in two days and third match in four days.
