Lady Bears Beat Livingstone 3-0 In CIAA Opener

RALEIGH, NC - The Shaw volleyball team defeated the Livingstone Blue Bears 3-0 (25-20, 25-10, 25-16) in the CIAA opener at historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium on Monday.

The win improved the Lady Bears' record to 1-0 in the CIAA and 7-2 overall. Shaw is on a six-match win streak.

Maelie Chupin led the Lady Bears with a double double of 10 kills and 12 digs. MaKayla Brown and Amari Earl added eight and six kills, respectively.

Jasmine Culp chipped in five aces and 19 digs and Manuela Cripa Nasser finished with 35 assists and three aces.

SET ONE| The Lady Bears opened a 5-1 lead and never trailed to win the first set. An 18-12 lead was whittled to 19-17 but the Lady Bears held off Livingstone for the set one win 25-20.

SET TWO| The Lady Bears took a 19-6 lead to dominate the second set 25-10.

SET THREE| The Lady Bears bounced back from a 3-0 deficit to take a 15-11 lead. They eventually opened a 10-point lead at 24-14 before winning set three and the match 25-16.

The Lady Bears host crosstown rival Saint Augustine's in a Southern Division match on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium. Match time is 6 p.m.
