FROSTBURG, MD -- The Shaw volleyball team lost to the Pittsburgh-Johnstown Mountain Cats 3-2 (25-23, 19-25, 25-22, 19-25, 12-15) Friday in the Frostburg State Tournament at Bobcat Arena.
The non-conference loss moved Shaw to 1-1 on the season.
The Lady Bears were led by a double-double from Lillian Carlson, who registered a team-high 13 kills and 16 digs on the day. Maelie Chupin added eight kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Jasmine Culp tallied 23 digs and Kamille Patrick added six blocks.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Bears persevered in a back-and-forth first set to win 25-23 in a stanza that featured six lead changes and 10 ties. Neither team led by more than four points in the match.
SET 2 | Shaw lost set two 25-19 to tie the match 1-1. The Lady Bears lost the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before dropping the set.
SET 3 | Shaw put the second-set loss in the rearview mirror and took a 2-1 match lead with a win in the third set. The Lady Bears scored first and never trailed in the set to earn a 25-22 victory. Shaw opened up as much as a seven point lead at 9-2 before finishing off the set.
SET 4 | Shaw couldn't finish off a four-set win as the Mountain Cats forced a fifth set with a 25-19 victory. The Lady Bears trailed by as many as six points as Pittsburgh-Johnstown grabbed the advantage for good at 13-12 and Shaw wasn't able to recover in a set that was tied up twice before the Mountain Cats took over.
SET 5 | Shaw and Pittsburgh-Johnstown went back and forth all match, trading wins in the first three sets until the Mountain Cats took the last two sets, including the fifth set 15-12, and the match. The fifth set was tied 8-8 before Pittsburgh-Johnstown took over.
