Lady Bears Sweep St. Aug, Finish Regular Season Unbeaten In CIAA Matches

RALEIGH, NC -- The Shaw volleyball team ended the regular season with a spotless 18-0 CIAA mark after traveling crosstown to sweep the Saint Augustine's Lady Falcons (25-19, 25-20, 25-19) Wednesday at Emery Gymnasium.

The Lady Bears finished unbeaten in conference play for the first time in recent history. They enter the postseason next week as Southern Division champions at 27-5 overall. The 27 wins are the most under Head Coach Jonathan Paulk in his four seasons at Shaw. The last time the Lady Bears reached 27 victories was the 2017 season.

On Wednesday, the Lady Bears were led by Lillian Carlson, who registered 13 kills and 11 digs. Lauren Janok, the CIAA assists leader, handed out a match-high 26 assists in addition to three aces, two blocks and seven digs. Kamille Patrick added nine kills, Jasmine Culp chipped in 12 digs and Hailey Hopkins contributed two blocks.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Lady Bears grabbed control early and never trailed to win the first set 25-19. Shaw led by seven points at 17-10 before finishing off the set.

SET 2 | Shaw took the second set 25-20 to promptly grab a 2-0 lead. The Lady Bears never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 18-17 in a set that had just one lead change before the Lady Bears took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 3 | Shaw closed the match in a 3-0 sweep after grabbing the third set. The Lady Bears won the set 25-19. Shaw took the lead for good at 11-10 in a set that had two lead changes before the Lady Bears took over the set. The Shaw offense got a boost from four aces in the stanza.

Up Next

The Lady Bears will host a CIAA First Round Match against an opponent to be determined on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m. The match begins their quest for their first CIAA title since 2018. Shaw has appeared in the last seven CIAA Championship Matches.
