Lady Bears Earn 3-0 Sweep Over Winston-Salem State

WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- The Shaw volleyball team took care of business in straight sets (25-20, 25-16, 25-21) to knock off the Winston-Salem Rams Wednesday on the road at Whitaker Gymnasium. 

The win moved the Lady Bears' record to 25-5 overall and 16-0 in CIAA action. Shaw has already clinched the Southern Division with two league matches left. Winston-Salem State dropped to 12-17 overall and 8-7 in the CIAA.

Kamille Patrick finished with 10 kills to lead the Lady Bears' attack while recording a hitting percentage of .474. Shaw got 9 digs from Maelie Chupin to lead it defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | Pinpoint serving helped the Lady Bears earn a set-one victory 25-20. Shaw recorded five aces in the set win. The Lady Bears opened a 19-12 lead and coasted to victory from there.

SET 2 | After its win in the first set, Shaw put itself on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-16 victory in set number two. The Lady Bears never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 7-6 in a set that had just one lead change before Shaw took over the lead.

SET 3 | Shaw finished the match in a 3-0 sweep after grabbing set three. The Lady Bears survived a back-and-forth set to win 25-21 in a stanza that featured four lead changes and nine ties. Neither team led by more than four points.

It will be Senior Night on Friday, Nov. 3, as the Lady Bears host Claflin in the final regular-season home match. The start time is 6 p.m. inside historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
