Lady Bears Secure 3-0 Sweep Over Chowan

MORRISVILLE, NC -- The Shaw volleyball team took care of business in three sets (25-22, 25-13, 25-18) to knock off the Chowan Hawks Tuesday at NetSports. 

The non-conference win moved the Lady Bears' overall record to 17-4 on the season. The victory was the seventh straight for Shaw.

Kamille Patrick finished with 11 kills to lead the Lady Bears' attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .500. Defensively, Shaw had two players reach double figures in digs as Jasmine Culp had 17 and Lillian Carlson had 10.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Lady Bears opened up an early one set to none lead, winning the first set 25-22. Shaw never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 15-14 after erasing a two-point deficit, the Hawks' largest lead of the set. This came in a set that featured 11 ties and six lead changes. The Lady Bears' opening set win came in a stanza where 18 of their 25 points came via the kill.

SET 2 | Shaw built on a set-one win by securing a 25-13 victory in set two. The Lady Bears never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 7-6 in a set that showcased two lead changes before Shaw took over the lead. The Shaw offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza. Shaw's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Chowan attacks in the stanza and capitalizing on 12 Chowan attacking errors on the way to victory.

SET 3 | Shaw closed the match in a 3-0 sweep after winning set three. The Lady Bears led from the first point on in the set to earn a 25-18 victory. Shaw ended on a high note, claiming its biggest lead, seven points, to close out the set. The Shaw offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.
