RALEIGH, NC --The Shaw volleyball team secured a three-set sweep (25-19, 25-21, 25-14) against the Fayetteville State Broncos Wednesday inside historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium in a battle between the top two CIAA Southern Division teams.Â
The Lady Bears (24-4 overall, 15-0 CIAA) captured their 14th straight victory to maintain its first-place grip in the Southern Division. They swept the Broncos (12-11 overall, 9-2 CIAA) in the two-match season series. In September, the Lady Bears eked out a five-set thriller in Fayetteville, N.C., but they took care of business Wednesday before the home fans.
Lillian Carlson finished with six kills to lead the Lady Bears offense. Shaw got 10 digs from Jasmine Culp to lead the team defensively.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Bears jumped out to an early lead, methodically winning the first set 25-19. Shaw never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 13-12. The set showcased two lead changes before the Lady Bears took control. Shaw supplemented its offense with three aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Shaw took set two 25-21 to quickly jump to a 2-0 lead. The Lady Bears never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 22-21. The set showcased two lead changes before Shaw took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 3 | Shaw then capped the three-set sweep with a victory in set number three. The Lady Bears took control of the set when the score was 2-1 and held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-14. Shaw ended on a strong note, opening up its biggest lead of the stanza, 11 points, to finish off the set. The Shaw offense got a boost from six aces in the stanza.
