DURHAM, NC - The Shaw women 's soccer team scored two second half goals to upend Florida National 2-0 at Durham County Stadium on Wednesday.
The victory was the fourth straight for the Lady Bears, who improved to 11-3-1 overall. Florida National dropped to 0-6-2 overall.
Giovanna Coghetto and
Matilde Strocchi both scored in the second half for the Lady Bears, who outshot Florida National 29-7. Coghetto took advantage of a dropped ball by the goalie to score from two yards out for a 1-0 lead. Strocchi later scored on header off a pass by Lorenza Gonzalez.Â
Paige Ellis was the winning goalie after recording six saves on seven shots for the Lady Bears, who had five corner kicks and 10 fouls. Florida National finished with two corner kicks and 12 fouls. Each team was assessed a yellow card.
The Lady Bears are on the road next Wednesday (Oct. 24) against Barton College in Wilson, N.C. The contest begins at 5 p.m.
