ELIZABETH CITY, NC --The Shaw volleyball team defeated the Elizabeth City State Vikings 3-1 (25-17, 28-30, 25-15, 25-22) Sunday on the final day of the CIAA Roundup 2 at the R.L. Vaughan Center.Â
The victory capped a perfect weekend for the Lady Bears (23-4 overall, 14-0 CIAA). On Saturday, they defeated Lincoln (Pa.) and Virginia State by 3-0 scores. Their current win streak is at 13.
The matchup against ECSU was filled with anticipation. It was a rematch of last year's CIAA championship game won by the Vikings. On Sunday, the Lady Bears gained a measure of revenge.
SHAW VS. ECSU
The Lady Bears were led by Noelani Beard, who registered 11 kills and 11 digs. Lillian Carlson added 13 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Jasmine Culp contributed 21 digs to go with four blocks from Lauren Janok.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Bears seized an early lead, methodically winning the first set 25-17. Shaw never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 7-6 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Lady Bears took the lead.
SET 2 | Shaw then lost set two 30-28, tying the match at one set apiece. In spite of pinpoint serving, the Lady Bears dropped the set. Shaw notched five aces in the set loss.
SET 3 | Shaw fought back following the set-two loss to take the third set and a 2-1 lead in the match. The Lady Bears scored first and never trailed in the set to earn a 25-15 victory. Shaw ended on a high note, claiming its biggest lead, 10 points, to finish off the set, collecting 15 kills in the process.
SET 4 | Shaw kept the momentum going, ending the match with a 25-22 fourth-set victory. The Lady Bears took the lead for good at 20-19 in a set that showcased two lead changes before Shaw took over in the second half of the stanza.
SHAW VS. LINCOLN (PA)
The Shaw volleyball team recorded a .415 attack percentage en route to a three-set win (25-17, 25-16, 25-7) against the Lincoln (PA) Lions.
Amari Earl finished with eight kills to lead the Lady Bears offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .316. Shaw got 8 digs from Lillian Carlson to lead them defensively.

The Lady Bears grabbed control of the set at 6-5 and held the lead the rest of the way. Shaw opened its biggest lead of the stanza, nine points, to close out the set. The Shaw offense got a boost from four aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | Shaw took set three to sweep the match. The Lady Bears scored first and never trailed in the set to secure a 25-7 victory. Shaw opened up as much as an 18-point lead at 24-6 before closing out the set. The Shaw offense got a boost from five aces in the stanza.
SHAW VS. VIRGINIA STATE
The Shaw volleyball team walked away with a 3-0 sweep (25-14, 25-13, 25-21) over the Virginia State Trojans.Â

SET 3 | Shaw then sealed the sweep with a victory in set number three. The Lady Bears led from the opening point to earn a 25-21 victory. Shaw opened up a nine-point lead at 13-4 before finishing off the set. The Shaw offense got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

The Lady Bears will face Fayetteville State for the second time this season at historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. The first match went five sets in September before Shaw prevailed over its Southern Division foe.Â
