Coghetto Scores Second Hat Trick In 6-0 Win Over Bluefield State

DURHAM, NC - Giovanna Coghetto scored her second three-goal hat trick of the season to lead Shaw past Bluefield State 6-0 in women's soccer action at Durham County Stadium on Friday.

Her last hat trick was Sept. 16 in a 6-1 victory over Virginia State. She was named USCAA Division I National Player of the Week for her performance.

On Friday, Coghetto led a second-half surge to put the contest away. The Lady Bears exploded for five goals after leading 1-0 at halftime. 

Coghetto scored all three goals in the second half. Johanna Lillja added the other two goals for the Lady Bears, who improved to 10-3-1 overall. Shaw is on a three-game win streak.

Matilde Strocchi scored a goal in the first half for a 1-0 halftime lead. Alondra Lares assisted on Strocchi's goal.

Lillja opened the second half with a goal for a 2-0 lead. Emma Wiberg assisted on Lillja's goal.

Coghetto scored her first goal on a penalty kick. Lillja scored her second goal on Paige Ellis' assist for a 4-0 lead.

Coghetto scored the last two goals to finish the scoring. Ellie MacDonald assisted on one of Coghetto's goals.

Ellis was credited with three saves in addition to an assist as the Lady Bears' goalkeeper. Shaw outshot Bluefield State (3-8 overall) 20-3 and produced more corner kicks 7-0. The foul count was 9 for Bluefield State and five for Shaw. 

The Lady Bears swept the season series against Bluefield State. They won the first matchup 2-1 in Bluefield, W.Va., on Sept. 20.

The Lady Bears are back at home Wednesday, Oct. 18, against Florida National at Durham County Stadium. The game starts at 4 p.m.
