Earl, Beard Amass Double-Doubles In Lady Bears 3-0 Win Against JCSU

RALEIGH, NC -- Amari Earl and Noelani Beard each put up double-doubles to help propel the Shaw volleyball team to a 3-0 victory (25-15, 25-17, 25-11) against the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls Wednesday at home inside historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.

The conference victory improved Shaw's record to 20-4 overall and 11-0 in CIAA play. The Golden Bulls fell to 4-10 overall and 2-6 in the CIAA.

Earl had 10 kills and 10 digs and Beard had 11 kills and 19 digs. Kamille Patrick added 13 kills to help the offensive attack. On the defensive end, Jasmine Culp chipped 12 digs.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Lady Bears, propelled by a strong showing on the attacking end, grabbed the first set 25-15. Shaw put together a .486 attack percentage with 19 kills in the set victory. The Lady Bears ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza. Shaw supplemented its offense with three aces in the opening set.

SET 2 | Shaw took set two 25-17 to quickly grab a 2-0 lead. The Lady Bears took control of the set lead at 3-2 and never looked back. Shaw opened its biggest lead of the stanza, eight points, to close out the set, collecting 18 kills along the way. The Shaw offense had three aces in the stanza.

SET 3 | Shaw then finished off the match with a victory in set number three. The Lady Bears took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to earn a 25-11 victory. Shaw ended on a high note, claiming its biggest lead, 14 points, to close out the set. The Lady Bears totaled 16 kills while only notching two attack errors.

The Lady Bears will head to Elizabeth City, N.C., this weekend for the CIAA Roundup 2 at Elizabeth City State. They will play Lincoln (Pa.) at 10 a.m. and Virginia State at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, and Elizabeth City State at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15. The match against Elizabeth City State will be a rematch of last year's CIAA Championship Match.
