ETTRICK, VA -- The Shaw volleyball team defeated three opponents in cross divisional matches at the CIAA Roundup I this weekend on Virginia State's campus. The Lady Bears beat Bluefield State, Virginia Union and Bowie State by 3-0 scores.
The victories improved the Lady Bears' record to 16-4 overall and 9-0 in the CIAA. Shaw has won six consecutive matches.
SHAW vs. BLUEFIELD STATE
The Lady Bears secured a 3-0 sweep (25-12, 25-11, 25-11) over the Bluefield State Lady Blues Saturday at the Multipurpose Center.
Lillian Carlson finished with nine kills on the day to lead the Lady Bears' attack. Defensively, four players reached double figures in digs, highlighted by Makayla Brown's 12, 11 from Jasmine Culp, and 11 more from Noelani Beard.

SET 2 | After its win in the first set, Shaw put itself on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-11 victory in set number two. The Lady Bears scored first and never trailed in the set to earn the victory. Shaw opened its biggest lead of the stanza, 14 points, to close out the set. The Shaw offense also got a boost from five aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | Shaw closed the match in a 3-0 sweep after winning the third set. The Lady Bears scored first and never trailed in the set to earn a 25-11 victory. SHAW vs. VIRGINIA UNION
The Lady Bears earned a three-set victory (25-15, 27-25, 25-21) against the Virginia Union Panthers Saturday at the Multipurpose Center.
Amari Earl finished with a match-high 11 kills on the day to lead the Lady Bears' attack. Shaw got 10 digs and a match-high four aces from Jasmine Culp.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Bears grabbed control of the set-one lead at 2-1 and never looked back to win 25-15. Shaw led by 12 points at 21-9 before finishing off the set. Shaw also supplemented its offense with seven aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | After its win in the first set, Shaw put itself on the cusp of a sweep with a 27-25 victory in set number two. The Lady Bears survived a furious Virginia Union rally, hanging on to win after leading by seven points at 10-3 earlier in the set. The Lady Bears racked up 18 kills over the course of the set.
SET 3 | Shaw then sealed the sweep with a victory in set number three. The Lady Bears led from the first point on in the set to secure a 25-21 victory. Shaw opened up an eight point lead at 16-8 before finishing off the set. The Shaw offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.
SHAW vs. BOWIE STATE
Shaw took care of business in three sets (25-11, 25-14, 25-23) to take down the Bowie State Bulldogs Sunday at the Multipurpose Center.
