Bears secure 3-0 sweep against Virginia State

RALEIGH, NC --The Shaw volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory (25-22, 25-22, 25-13) over the Virginia State Trojans Saturday at home at CC Spaulding.

The conference victory improved Shaw's record to 19-7 overall and 14-1 in CIAA action.

Noelani Beard finished with 18 kills on the day to lead the Bears offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .298. Defensively, had two players reach double figures in digs as Kaylin Evans had 15 and Ilani Myers had 12.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Bears won the first point and never looked back to secure the first set 25-22. Shaw led by as many as 10 points at 13-3 before closing out the set, totaling 18 kills along the way. Shaw also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.

SET 2 | Shaw won set two 25-22 to quickly grab a 2-0 lead. The Bears took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to secure the victory. Shaw opened up as much as a four point lead at 21-17 before closing out the set, collecting 17 kills in the process. The Bears racked up 17 kills over the course of the set. The Shaw offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.

SET 3 | Shaw then capped the three-set sweep with a victory in set number three. The Bears took the set 25-13. Shaw took the lead for good at 8-7 in a set that had just one lead change before the Bears took over the lead. The Shaw offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

Shaw returns to action October 31 as they travel to Lincoln, PA to face Lincoln (PA). First serve is slated for 6 PM.
