RALEIGH, N.C. –The Shaw University women's tennis team earned a whopping 7-0 victory over Benedict College Tuesday afternoon at Worthdale Park.
Shaw improved to a 3-4 record on the year with this match while Benedict fell to a 1-2 mark on the year.
The Lady Bears started off smoking, sweeping the doubles competition 3-0. Sophomore Michelle Blaha (Entre Rios, Argentina) and sophomore Chetna Kumari (Gurgaon, India) partnered at the No. 1 spot and took their match by the score of 6-2. Junior Kundai Manyonga (Harare, Zimbabwe) and senior Nika Tadic (Split, Croatia) teamed up at the No. 2 spot also taking their match, 6-3.
The Lady Bears started the singles competitions where they left off in doubles to prove their dominance by sweeping the singles and securing the win.
Manyonga shined for the Lady Bears as went undefeated on the day, winning straight sets by the score of 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 2 slot. Kumari also put in a great performance winning 6-4, 6-0, at the No. 2 positions.
The Lady Bears will return to action on Friday, Apr. 16 in Bluefield, W.V. two matches against Charleston (WV) at 11 a.m. and Bluefield State at 1 p.m.
