CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Shaw University women's tennis delivered a dominant performance Saturday, blanking Johnson C. Smith 4-0 at West Charlotte High School.
With the win, Shaw improves to 9-6 overall and 9-0 in CIAA action.
The Lady Bears wasted no time earning the doubles point, benefiting from a default win at No. 3 before securing a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles by Hailey Banda and Tanaka Garikai.
In singles play, Shaw collected wins at No. 2 (Camilla Mortino, 6-2, 6-0), No. 3 (Tanaka Garikai, 3-6, 6-0, 10-5), No. 5 (Hailey Banda, 6-0, 6-3) and No. 6 (Veronika Philippova, 1-0, 1-0) to clinch the match.
Shaw returns to action Tuesday, April 21, as they host Livingstone College at Worthdale Park. Seniors will be acknowledged prior to the match.
