DURHAM, N.C. - The Shaw University women's tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss to Division I N.C. Central on Friday afternoon from the Dr. Younge Tennis Courts.
The Lady Bears opened the day posting a 1-2 scoreline in the doubles competitions.
Although Shaw earned a win at the No. 3 doubles by default, sophomore duo Michelle Blaha (Entre Rios, Argentina) and Chetna Kumari (Gurgaon, India) played out a 3-6 match competing at the No. 1 position while sophomore Nika Tadic (Split, Croatia) and junior Kundai Manyonga (Harare, Zimbabwe) surrendered a 2-6 decision at the No. 2 doubles.
Similarly, in the singles competitions, Tadic and Kololo won their matches by default at the No. 5 and 6 slots, respectively.
Blaha fought hard at the No. 1 singles, but couldn't capitalize on a competitive 5-7 first set which ultimately translated over in the second set that ended 1-6 frame.
Shaw's record now sits at 1-4 while the Eagles improve to 3-8 on the season.
Up next, the Lady Bears host Chowan(Murfreesboro, N.C.) from Conference Carolinas on Tuesday, Apr. 6. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Worthdale Park.
