RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's tennis team fell to Barton College on Wednesday afternoon at Worthdale Park, 4-0.
Although doubles play was very competitive, the Lady Bears fell in straight doubles. At the No. 1 doubles, sophomore Michelle Blaha (Entre Rios, Argentina) and sophomore Chetna Kumari (Gurgaon, India) suffered a 6-3 loss while junior Thandi Kololo (Gaborone, Botswana) and senior Eva Simo (Bafoussam, Cameroon) faltered in a 6-4 decision. At the No. 3 doubles, senior Nika Tadic (Split, Croatia) and junior Kundai Manyonga (Harare, Zimbabwe) battled hard before falling 7-6 decision.
In singles play, Blaha suffered a 6-0, 6-1 loss at No. 1, followed by 6-1, 6-1 setback from Simo at the No. 2 position. Manyonga then fell 6-0, 6-3 at the three spot for the sweep for Barton who remains undefeated at 6-0 on the season.
The remaining singles were left unfinished for the match.
Up next, Shaw (1-3) will travel to Durham to face N.C. Central University on Friday, Mar. 26. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
