CHARLOTTE, N.C. The Shaw University women's tennis team came up short to Johnson C. Smith, 4-1 in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division matchup Thursday afternoon at the Coleman/Cuthbertson Tennis Courts.

The loss dips the Lady Bears to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the CIAA while JCSU improves to 2-7 on the year and 1-0 in the league.

JCSU picked up the doubles point after Shaw's sophomore Kundai Manyonga (Harare, Zimbabwe) and freshman Chetna Kumari (Gurgaon, India) were edged 7-6 at the No. 2 doubles as the Golden Bulls took a 6-0 win at the No. 3 spot.

Junior Eva Simo (Bafoussam, Cameroon) tied the match at 1-1 after earning a 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1 singles position but the Golden Bulls took wins at No. 2, 5 and 6 positions to come away with the win over Shaw.

Due to the coronavirus concern, the Lady Bears match against Winston-Salem State originally scheduled on Saturday, Mar. 14 has been cancelled.
