SHAW XC GEARS UP FOR QUEENS INVITE FRIDAY

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's and women's cross-country teams will travel to Charlotte, N.C. on Friday, September 27 for the 2019 Queens Invite hosted by Queens (NC) University. The women's 5k race will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the men's 8k race at 5:30 p.m. at the McAlpine Creek Park (8711 Monroe Road, Charlotte, N.C. 28212).

 

The Lady Bears are coming off a seventh place finish amongst non-DI or club teams at the Adidas XC Challenge last Friday (Sept. 20). Sophomore Luisa Cury (Araraquara, Brazil) paced Shaw with a finishing time of 21:25 while junior Kaydi-Ann Wint (Kingston, Jamaica) came in five seconds later at 21:30 for 22nd and 24th place, respectively.

 

On the men's side, freshman standout Peter Ekayi (Rumurti, Kenya) led the Bears with a seventh place finish individually, crossing the finish line with a time of 16:22. As a team, Shaw placed fourth overall amongst non-DI or club teams at the event.

 

Shaw will accompany 43 teams at the Queens Invite, including 25 Division II programs, nine Division I schools, five Division III programs, three NAIA institutions and one USCAA member.

 

Following Friday's event, both men's and women's cross-country will compete at the HBCU Challenge in Salisbury, N.C. on Oct. 5.
