LADY BEARS SUFFER 4-3 SETBACK TO FAIRMONT STATE

FAIRMONT, W. Va. – The Shaw University women's tennis team dropped a tight road match, 4-3 to Fairmont State University on Tuesday afternoon at the FSU Tennis Courts.

 

The Lady Bears (10-5) found themselves trailing 1-0 after losing all three doubles as court 1 and 2 suffered 6-3 losses.

 

Shaw got on the scoreboard thanks to a 6-0, 6-2 win from senior Carmen Mantecon (Madrid, Spain) at the No. 2 singles while freshman Kundai Manyonga (Harare, Zimbabwe) earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 4 singles. Freshman Eva Ostermeier (Munich, Germany) battled for a 2-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 5 singles but Fairmont State concluded the competition with victories at the No. 1 and 3 singles for the match win.

 

With a quick turnaround, the Lady Bears will return to action Wednesday, Apr. 3 when Shaw travels to Salem, W.Va., to face Salem at 10 a.m.
