WOMEN'S TENNIS FALLS TWICE DURING TRIP TO WEST VIRGINIA

CHARLESTON, W.V. – The Shaw University women's tennis team dropped a pair road matches during the Lady Bears trip to West Virginia. Shaw fell 4-2 to West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday (Apr. 12) and 6-1 to the University of Charleston.

The losses dips the Lady Bears overall record to 11-8 overall.

Against WVW (11-7), Shaw's two points came from senior Teodora Jovanovic (Nis, Serbia) at the No. 1 singles with a 7-6, 5-0 win while freshman Eva Ostermeier (Munich, Germany) earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 6 singles. Senior Carmen Mantecon (Madrid, Spain) and junior Siria Dibe (Tucumon, Argentina) claimed a 6-0 win at the No. 1 doubles but it would not be enough as the Bobcats took the No. 2 and 3 doubles by the scores of 6-2 and 6-0.

On Sunday, the Lady Bears took the Golden Eagles of UC (). SU fell behind 1-0 after doubles despite a 6-0 win from the freshman duo of Ostermeier and Kundai Manyonga (Harare, Zimbabwe). In singles play, Manyonga was the only Lady Bear to claim a win, battling for a 6-3, 3-6 10-8 victory at the No. 4 spot.

Shaw will look to snap this funk with another road test at old rival Chowan on Tuesday, Apr. 16. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
