LADY BEARS TENNIS TOP VIRGINIA STATE, 6-1

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's tennis tea earned a 6-1 win over Virginia State University Sunday afternoon during the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round-Up at Lions Park.

 

The victory marked the Lady Bears (9-3, 7-0 CIAA) seventh straight win in a row while the Trojans dips to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in league action.

 

Shaw took the doubles point. VSU won on the No. 2 doubles court but the Lady Bears came back to take the matches on courts No. 1 and 3 to pick up the first point of the match.

 

In singles competition, Shaw won 5-of-6 singles matches that featured 6-0, 6-0 wins from freshman Kundai Manyonga (Harare, Zimbabwe) at No. 4 and junior Helena Fekete (Belgrade, Serbia) at the No. 5 singles.

 

Shaw will return to action Wednesday, Mar. 27 against Johnson C. Smith for a CIAA Southern Division match at Lions Park. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
