WOMEN'S TENNIS TOPS WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN, 6-3

RALEIGH, NC – The Shaw University women's tennis team handed a 6-3 decision to West Virginia Wesleyan Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.

Shaw improves to 17-2 on the year while the Lady Bobcats fall to 10-6 overall.

SU took a 2-1 lead after doubles competition. Daniella Vanko (Montreal, Canada) and Marilyne Kamegne (Yaoundé, Cameroon) won 8-4 at the No. 1 doubles, following Teodora Jovanovic (Nis, Serbia) and Helena Fekete (Subotica, Serbia) with an 8-3 win at the No. 2 doubles.

The Lady Bears won four of the six singles as Vanko tallied a 6-0, 7-5 decision at the No. 1 singles. At the No. 4 singles, Andrijana Martic (Belgrade) won, 6-2, 6-1 while Simbiat Aleem (Lagos, Nigeria) recorded a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 5 slot and Fekete earned a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at the No. 6 singles

The Lady Bears will face the University of Charleston Sunday, April 9 at 2 p.m.
