LADY BEARS TENNIS ADVANCE TO SECOND ROUND WITH 5-0 WIN OVER ELIZABETH CITY STATE

BOWIE, Md. – Shaw University women's tennis made it to the second round of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Tennis Championship on Thursday, April 20 after earning a clean sweep of Elizabeth City State by the score of 5-0 at the Bowie State University Tennis Courts.

 

With the win, Shaw (19-2, 12-1 CIAA) will now meet Virginia State (14-4, 10-3 CIAA) on Friday, April 21 at 10:30 a.m. The two teams met once earlier in the year, where the Lady Bears swept VSU 9-0 back on Mar. 26 during the CIAA Round-Up.

 

The Lady Bears got off to a great start, ignited by a 3-0 lead in doubles action. Shaw won all three doubles by the scores of 8-0. Momentum carried over into singles competition as Simbiat Aleem (Lagos, Nigeria) blanked her opponent for a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 5 singles and Andrijana Martic (Belgrade, Serbia) tallied 6-0, 6-0 victories at the No. 4 singles to advance Shaw.

 

The Lady Vikings conclude its season with a 3-11 overall record.
