LADY BEARS TENNIS WINS AT BARTON, 6-3

WILSON, NC – The Shaw University women's tennis team won its fourth match on the season, including its fourth on the road, Sunday afternoon as the Lady Bears (4-1) downed Barton College (5-6), 6-3.

Shaw held a 2-1 lead after earning wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Daniela Vanko (Montreal, Canada) and Marilyne Kamegne (Yaounde, Cameroon) won 8-6 at the No. 1 doubles to start the match while Simbiat Aleem (Lagos, Nigeria) and Andrijana Martic (Belgrade) won 8-5 at the No. 3 slot.

The Lady Bears secured four wins in singles points to secure the 6-3 victory. Vanko tallied a 6-0, 6-4 win at the No. 1 singles, while Kamegne edged a 6-0, 7-6, 7-5 victory at the No. 3 position. Martic took a 6-4, 6-2 win while Aleem won 6-0, 6-1 over her opponent.

Shaw will return to action on Mar. 7 at Johnson C. Smith with a first serve slated for 2 p.m.
