LADY BEARS MAKES QUICK WORK OF LIVINGSTONE IN 9-0 DIVISION SWEEP

RALEIGH, NC – In their second home match of the 2017 season, the Shaw University women's tennis won their sixth-straight match beating Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division opponent Livingstone College (0-5, 0-2 CIAA, 0-2 Southern Division) on Monday afternoon by a score of 9-0 at  Worthdale Park.

 

Shaw (8-1, 4-0 CIAA, 2-0 Southern Division) won all three doubles. Tandems Daneila Vanko (Montreal, Canada) and Marilyne Kamegne (Yaoundé, Cameroon) claimed a 8-1 win in flight one while Toedora Jovanovic (Nis, Serbia) and Helena Fekete (Subotica, Serbia) secured a 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles. Andrijana Martin (Belgrade, Serbia) and Simbiat Aleem (Lagos, Nigeria) won by default at the No. 3 doubles.

 

In singles, it was more of the same for Shaw, as the Lady Bears swept all six matches in the line-up. At the top, Vanko was a 6-0, 6-1 winner, while at the No. 2 singles, Jovanovic captured a 6-0, 6-0 win. Kamegne took a 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 3 flight, following Martin and Aleem with 6-0, 6-0 victories at the No. 4 and 5 spots. Fekete would win by default at the No. 6 slot to round out the sweep.

 

Shaw returns to action Tuesday, Mar. 21 versus Fayetteville State (1-3, 1-3 CIAA, 0-1 Division) at Worthdale Park. Action will get underway at 1 p.m.
