WOMEN'S TENNIS SWEEPS VIRGINIA UNION, 9-0 TO CONCLUDE CIAA ROUND-UP

ELIZABETH CITY, NC – Shaw University women's tennis claimed a 9-0 victory over Virginia Union University (1-1, 1-1 CIAA) Saturday afternoon to wrap up the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Roundup on the campus of Elizabeth City State University.

Shaw (6-1, 2-0 CIAA) swept the doubles matches to get off to a quick 3-0 lead. Daniela Vanko (Montreal, Canada) and Marilyne Kamegne (Yaounde, Cameroon) won at the No. 1 doubles to start the match. At the second position, Helena Fekete (Subotica, Serbia) and Teodora Jovanovic (Nis, Serbia) registered an 8-0 win over their opponents while Simbiat Aleem (Lagos, Nigeria) and Andrijana Martic (Belgrade) also grabbed 8-0 win at the No. 3 doubles.

Vanko won 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 singles, while Jovanovic, Kamegne, Martic, Aleem and Fekete all recorded 6-0, 6-0 victories at their respective positions.

Shaw will return to action on Tuesday, Mar. 14 for its home opener versus Livingstone College at Worthdale Park. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
