CHARLOTTE, NC – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), along with its Tennis Coaches Association announced its 2016 All-Conference Women's Tennis Teams, All-Rookie Team, and Player of the Year as well as Coach of the Year on Thursday.
The Lady Bears had three selected to the All-Conference team, including the 2016 Women's Tennis Player of the Year in senior Ana Ruzir (Zagreb, Croatia), while freshman Teodora Jovanovic (Nis, Serbia), and sophomore Marilyne Kamegne (Yaounde, Cameroon) each tabbed All-CIAA honors. Head Coach Sunday Enitan was named the 2016 Women's Tennis Coach of the Year.
Ruzir earned the accolade after leading the Shaw University women's tennis team undefeated in singles matches this season (13-0 CIAA; 18-0 Overall). Ruzir is also without a loss in CIAA doubles matches (18-0) and has been defeated only three times in overall doubles (15-3).
Kamegne joins Ruzir on the All-CIAA Team. The 5-foot-7 No. 3 player complied a singles record of 16-2 and an 11-1 record against conference opponents this season.
Jovanovic saw her name on the list to round out the Lady Bears on the All-CIAA Team after she posted a 13-5 record overall at the No. 2 singles and 11-1 record against conference opponents.
Lastly, Coach Enitan was named CIAA Women's Tennis Coach of the Year after securing the Southern Division Champion Title. The defending champion Lady Bears went undefeated at 8-0 in divisional play, 12-1 in conference play, and 16-2 overall. Coach Enitan and his athletes will look to bring home Shaw's eighth championship trophy in the 2016 tournament.
