BLUEFIELD, WC – The Shaw University women's tennis team extended its win-streak to six games after defeating Bluefield State University (4-14), 5-4 on Friday (April 15) before sweeping West Virginia Wesleyan University, 7-0 on Saturday (April 16) at the Bluefield Tennis Courts.
With a 2-0 disadvantage to start the contest, the Lady Bears (15-2) captured one doubles win after Marilyne Kamegne (Yaounde, Cameroon) and Andrijana Martic (Belgrade) took a 8-1 victory over their opponents as Shaw went into singles action, trailing 2-1.
As the singles portion got underway, Ana Ruzir (Zagreb, Croatia) battled back to earn a 6-1, 6-3 win at the No. 1 slot. The Lady Bears would take 4-of-6 singles, with setbacks at the No. 2 and No. 6 spots.
Shaw rolled a 7-0 win over the Bobcats (9-9) after earning doubles point, taking two of the three matches and swept singles play to pick up the clean sweep.
Shaw will return to action on Monday, April 18 as they face Fayetteville State University for a divisional matchup. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. at Lions Park.
