RALEIGH, NC – The Shaw University women's tennis team edged out Barton College (1-9), 5-4 on Friday afternoon at Lions Park to improve to 2-1 overall this season. The Lady Bears captured one of the three doubles matches at the two spot. Andrijana Martic (Belgrade) and Marilyne Kamegne (Yaounde, Cameroon) had a 8-6 win at one doubles over Vanessa Sanoja and Whitney Hamilton.
Ana Ruzir (Zagreb, Croatia) had straight set wins at the No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-3) over Smiljana Kljajic. Kamegne defeated Dana Kelly at the No. 3 singles (6-2, 6-0), while Martic secured a 6-1, 6-0 win over Hamilton at the No. 4 singles and Simbiat Aleem (Lagos, Nigeria) routed Casey Utley (6-0, 6-0) at the No. 5 singles.
Shaw returns to action on Saturday (Mar. 5) as they compete in the CIAA Tennis Round-Up held at Lions Park in Raleigh, NC.
