RALEIGH, NC – The Shaw University women's tennis team scored a 7-0 win over Fayetteville State University at Lions Park Tuesday for a CIAA Southern Division matchup. The Lady Bears have extended its win streak to eight and post a record of 9-1 with today's win, while the Lady Broncos drop to 1-5.
Shaw opened with a pair of doubles wins to take a 1-0 lead. Senior Ana Ruzir (Zagreb, Croatia) and freshman Teodora Jovanovic (Nis, Serbia) defeated Selena Cox and Vanaysha Graham 8-0 at No. 1, while Sophomore Marilyne Kamegne (Yaounde, Cameroon) and freshman Anadrijana Martic (Belgrade) beat Farrah Richardson and Caitlyn Gilliam at No. 2.
The Lady Bears swept through the five singles matches without losing a set. Ruzir scored a win over Cox (6-0, 6-0) at No. 1, followed by Jovanovic's win at No. 2.
Kamegne defeated Richardson (6-0, 6-0), while Martic won at No. 4. Freshman Simbiat Aleem (Lagos, Nigeria) also tabbed a win over Octavia Gilmore (6-0, 6-1).
Shaw is back in action on Saturday, March 19th at Chowan University for the CIAA Round-Up in Murfreesboro, NC. First serve is set for 9 a.m.
