RALEIGH, NC. – The Shaw University women's tennis team scored a 7-2 win Saturday afternoon over Winston-Salem State University in a team match played at Lions Park. The victory improves the Lady Bears to 8-1 overall and 6-0 in the CIAA, while the Lady Rams fall to 1-5 on the year and 1-3 in the league.
Shaw would earn 2-of-3 doubles matches, with a 8-1 and 8-2 wins before defaulting the No. 3 doubles.
The Lady Bears then collected wins from Ana Ruzir (Zagreb, Croatia), Teodora Jovanovic (Nis, Serbia) Marilyne Kamegne (Yaounde, Cameroon), Anadrijana Martic (Belgrade) and Simbiat Aleem (Lagos, Nigeria) before WSSU earned its second point by a default to conclude singles play.
Ruzir won 6-1, 6-0, and Jovanovic recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Kamegne posted a 6-0, 6-0 walkover, and Martic notched a 6-1, 6-0, before Aleem turned in a 6-0, 6-0 decision for Shaw.
The Lady Bears will look to extend its win streak to nine games when they travel to Fayetteville State University for a CIAA Southern Division matchup. First serve is slated for 3:30 p.m.
